Safety Statistics
According to the National Safe Kids Campaign, American children face a number of dangers, at home, school, in their community, and while traveling. These dangers have enormous financial, emotional, and social effects on not only the child and their family, but also the community and society as a whole.
Unintentional injury is the single leading cause of death among children ages 14 and under in the United States.
In 1999, 5,834 children ages 14 and under died from unintentional injuries. In addition, each year nearly 120,000 children are permanently disabled.
One out of every four children or more than 14 million children ages 14 and under, sustains injuries that are serious enough to require medical attention each year.
Time Magazine cites that one in 42 children will become a "missing child."
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, there are 4 million registered sex offenders living in our neighborhoods, or one child molester for every square mile of land in the country.
In the State of California alone, there are 63,000 convicted sex offenders for child molestation.
A typical sex offender will abuse between 30 and 60 children before they are caught or arrested, the most hardened offenders can abuse up to 380 children during their lifetime.
